Day 1
Woke up at 7am and at 8am took LRT & monorail to the destination. At Maharajalela monorail, met shen shen and her friends, so together we walk to the building and meet up with ms chou, sze hunt, alan and rachel. Then went for breakfast at the mamak nearby, james and eugene joined us shortly... Around 9 something went to reg. Gosh the hall outside was packed with students and professionals(lec, working ppl). I think there were more around 500++ ppl?

Goodies bag(books) given at the entrance to the hall...

The first speaker - Wally Olins (http://www.saffron-consultants.com/)
Wally Olins was the co-founder of Wolff Olins and was Chairman of the company until 1997. He is currently the Chairman of Saffron Brand Consultants of London, New York and Madrid. He is one of the world's leading practitioners in corporate identity and branding. (taken from http://www.designyatra.com/Speakers.html)

He taught us about branding, what is it and how... i even brought his latest book and got his signature... hehe

-----------------------
er... basically, he talked about hindu-buddhist religion and NAGAs and how he applied on his work.. more on talking bout his research on NAGAs.... most of the students actually almost fall asleep cuz he talked in monotone.... but Ms Chou and Mr koh seem interested on him...

Third speaker- Rohan Thomas (http://www.rohanthomas.com/)
Rohan Thomas is a Senior Web Platform and UX Technology Advisor with Microsoft and works with Microsoft’s partners, customers but also with local universities, design communities and various companies to promote innovation in the Web Platform and User Experience technologies space. -------------------------
He showned us lots of interesting sites... like photosynth.com, whereby when we upload any 2D picture, the site will analyse and allows us to see the pic 3D in every direction and angle.. it's awesome!

After that we have one hour break, we went to Petaling Street for lunch, went to a place famous for curry laksa(not sure where), but gosh, one of the aunty in charged of the yong tau foo freaking rude... was sort-of shouting at us saying if we're not ordering anything from the first stall, are NOT allow to sit at certain tables. How on earth u expect us to know which table to sit when all are the same, there isn't any indication saying this table belongs to first stall... We are you customer afterall, must u talk to us tat rude? I will forever NEVER go there!

Anyway, went back to the hall for fourth speaker- Neville Brody ( http://www.researchstudios.co.uk/)
The British designer and art director, has now been at the forefront of graphic design for over two decades. Initially working in record cover design, Brody made his name largely through his revolutionary work as Art Director for the Face magazine. (taken from http://www.designyatra.com/Speakers.html)

-------------------------------
i was looking forward or his talks as he was a famous designer, but slowly got sleepy.. He mainly shows us his typography work on times newspaper, layout etc...

Then it was the discussion session between Tony Savarimuthu & Wally Olins on branding...

Wally Olins and Tony , with the pic of the books he published in the screen

The picture tells it all... Not all of us actually listening to the discussion...

Fifth speaker, suppose to be Reza Abedini, from iran but he unable to get the visa to come here.. So we moved on to Chris Lee... (http://www.theasylum.com.sg/)
Chris is the founder and creative director of Asylum, a highly regarded creative company that comprises a design studio, a retail store, a workshop and a record label. (taken from http://www.designyatra.com/Speakers.html)

---------------------------------------------------------------------
From the brochure i got, i was interested in him and his artwork.. After all the talks, his was able to keep us awake throughout his presentation... He talks about his background, company and works he done... Oh, and he's funny too....

Then, dinner time-6pm. James, Alan, Sze Hunt, Rachel Chu & Loo, another junior(dont know his name, sorry...) and me decided to go lowyat for dinner at one of the hong kong restaurant.... Suppose to take the monorail to there, but rachel chu said it was crowded, so we walked all the way there. Imagine you walked from maharajalela(stadium Merdeka) to Low yat.. soooooooooo far.. and we were starving! sigh.. actually the counter was crowded because students were lining up to buy the tix.. but the train is empty, atho it's 6pm, but monorail will only be crowded if we took train from other end to KL Sentral....

After dinner, we gone separate way. James, Sze Hunt, Rachel Loo and I went to Sg. Wang and BB Plaza for a walk while the rest remain in low yat... Around 8pm, we took monorail back to the assembly hall. for last and final speaker...

Sixth speaker- Kenya Hara (http://www.ndc.co.jp/)
Kenya Hara is one of the Japanese design community’s most respectable thinkers and prolific designers. Kenya has been synonymous with the acclaimed art direction of MUJI, and also the creator of the programs for the opening and closing ceremonies of the Nagano Winter Olympic Games 1998. (taken from http://www.designyatra.com/Speakers.html)

------------------------------------
Altho his presentation able to makes us feel sleepy, since he read directly from the paper prepared but i like his design... to make something ordinary into extraordinary.. it was pretty cool!

By the time the talks over, it was ady 9 something! gosh... so late.. Everyone went separate ways... James goin to Salak Selatan, so we both took the same train... least got someone acc me, not so scare altho it's late.... So tired... Another day to go...

Wally's latest published branding book(RM45) i brought there with his signature!

That's all for part 1.. will update Day/Part 2 soon....
back to my assignments....
